AmeriHealth Mercy continues to work to identify and respond to the needs of our members with low or limited English proficiency (LEP) and/or sensory impairments. The key to ensuring equal access to benefits and services for these members is communication. Communication, whether written or spoken, is the key to establishing the patient/ practitioner relationship.
Some simple ways you can improve communication withmembers:
- Speak plainly, avoiding medical terminology and jargon
- Write easy-to-understand instructions
- Make sure the patient understands the instructions prior to leaving your office
- Involve all staff in the effort to simplify and clarify written and oral communication
AmeriHealth Mercy reminds all participating practitioners that you have an obligation to provide interpreter services for members with LEP and to make reasonable efforts to accommodate members with sensory impairments. Any practitioner with a question or concern regarding the provision of these services may call our Member Services Department at 800-521-6007. |
