AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan Ranked Among the Nation’s Top 25
Medicaid Plans in U.S. News & World Report/NCQA Listing

November 13, 2009
Harrisburg (PA) – AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan, the premier Medicaid managed care plan in central and northeastern Pennsylvania, was recently ranked among the top 25 Medicaid health plans in the nation according to the U.S. News & World Report/National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) listing of America’s Best Health Insurance Plans 2009-10. AmeriHealth Mercy ranked 25th out of more than 80 Medicaid managed care plans in America.

“In striving to provide the best possible health care for our members, it is rewarding to see the work we’ve done recognized by NCQA and U.S. News and World Report year after year,” said Anne Morrissey, president, Pennsylvania Managed Care, AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan. “In addition to providing our members with exceptional health care, Amerihealth Mercy participates in many community outreach and health education programs aiming to improve the health of our members and their communities.”

Released in the print edition of U.S. News & World Report (and available online at www.usnews.com/healthplans), this collaborative study ranked the nation’s commercial, Medicare and Medicaid health plans based on:

  • Access to care, including a member’s ability to get needed care quickly and a health plan’s customer service,
  • Overall member satisfaction,
  • Preventive services, including health screenings, prenatal care, childhood and adolescent immunizations and well-child visits,
  • Treatment, how well the plan takes care of ongoing health problems,
  • Overall quality score, a combination of the scores from the four main categories above, along with NCQA accreditation.
