AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan Appoints New Medical Director

Harrisburg (PA) – AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan has recently appointed Kevin M. Hepler, M.D., M.B.A., as its new Medical Director.

In this role, Dr. Hepler is responsible for utilization and quality management reviews for concurrent care, prior authorizations, and durable medical equipment services, as well as pediatric shift care. Dr. Hepler reports to Dr. Larry Kay, Senior Medical Director for AmeriHealth Mercy.

"Dr. Hepler's extensive experience in medical management will be an asset for AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan and our members," said Sherry Knowlton, Senior Vice President and General Manager, AmeriHealth Mercy. "He has the skills and expertise to help further the mission of AmeriHealth Mercy to provide quality care and help our members stay well."

Prior to joining AmeriHealth Mercy, Dr. Hepler served as a physician for Southern Huntingdon County Medical Center, in Orbisonia, Pa., and had served as Medical Director for Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania, headquartered in Camp Hill, Pa. He was also the Medical Director for the Pa. Office of Children, Youth and Families, Department of Public Welfare, from 1999 to 2004.

Dr. Hepler is board certified in family medicine and a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in family and community medicine at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He received his bachelor's degree at Princeton University, where he majored in psychology, and he received his Masters in Business Administration with a concentration in information systems from Drexel University.
