Local Residents Receive Scholarships to Continue Their Education
AmeriHealth Mercy Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Member Scholarship Program
Reading (PA) –Fifteen residents of Berks, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lehigh, Northampton and York counties recently received $2,000 scholarships from AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan to further their education. The recipients, all AmeriHealth Mercy members, received their scholarships at an awards banquet held on May 1 in Harrisburg.
"This program, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary, is a key part of our mission to help build healthier communities for our members," said Anne Morrissey, president, Pennsylvania Managed Care, AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan. "It is also a big part of what makes AmeriHealth Mercy and its employees so special."
The Member Scholarship Program is funded by contributions from AmeriHealth Mercy’s employees, many of whom attended the event. The program provides assistance to members of all ages, including recent high school graduates and non-traditional students, who need help paying for their education.
AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan created the Member Scholarship Program in 1988 to extend support to its members beyond traditional health care services. Over the past 20 years, the scholarship program has awarded more than 650 scholarships to members in the Lehigh/Capital and Philadelphia areas, totaling just under $1.5 million.
