AmeriHealth Mercy and St. Joesph Medical Center
Work Together to Open Orthopedic Clinic
Reading, PA - In an effort to improve access to orthopedic care, AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan and St. Joseph Medical Center have partnered together to develop the hospital's new orthopedic clinic.
The St. Joseph Medical Center Orthopedic Clinic is the only center for orthopedic care in Berks County serving area residents on Medical Assistance. The clinic is staffed by nine physicians. It is currently open on Monday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to noon, with plans for extended hours in the near future.
"We are pleased that we have been able to facilitate an arrangement between members of our medical staff and AmeriHealth Mercy. Every one of our orthopedic surgeons is participating in this clinic. This will make the doctors' services more accessible to AmeriHealth Mercy's Berks County members," said Samuel Alfano, DO, MMM, Vice President, Medical Affairs, St. Joseph Medical Center
AmeriHealth Mercy is working with additional orthopedic physicians in the area to open another clinic at a local hospital. The addition of this clinic will further improve access to orthopedic care for AmeriHealth Mercy's members.
"We are pleased that St. Joseph Medical Center has responded to the need for an on-site orthopedic center for patients on Medical Assistance," said Sherry Knowlton, Vice President and General Manager for AmeriHealth Mercy. "As partners in this initiative, we will continue to work towards improving our members access to orthopedic care."
