Local Health Plan Helps Members to Continue Education
Harrisburg, PA - To help its medical assistance members continue their education, AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan is awarding 10 members from the Lehigh/Capital area with a $2,000 scholarship to help cover their higher education costs. To honor the recipients, AmeriHealth Mercy will hold a reception Tuesday, July 22, 2003, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Hilton Harrisburg & Towers Hotel, 1 North Second Street in Harrisburg.
The evening's guest speaker will be Norman Bristol-Colon, Executive Director of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs, the Commonwealth's advocacy agency for its Latino residents. With his years of committed service to education and socioeconomic issues, Bristol-Colon is in a unique position to talk to the recipients about how their education can change their lives and the lives of others.
In keeping with the company's Mission and Values, the Member Scholarship Program was created in 1988 in an effort to extend support to members beyond traditional health care services. The scholarships are funded by donations from AmeriHealth Mercy associates and are awarded to AmeriHealth Mercy members who have committed themselves to continuing their education and have demonstrated a financial need. Since its inception, the scholarship program has awarded over $1 million to more than 500 members, in both the Lehigh/Capital and Philadelphia markets. Members are awarded scholarships to help cover tuition expenses at an accredited college or trade school. Of this year's 10 recipients - one is a three-year winner, two are two-year winners and seven are first-year winners.
