National Committee for Quality Assurance Awards AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan Commendable Status

Harrisburg, PA - The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) awarded AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan its accreditation status of "Commendable." AmeriHealth Mercy's accreditation status is based on the voluntary review of how a health plan ensures that its members are receiving high quality care.

"Achieving an accreditation status of Commendable is a notable achievement," said Margaret E. O'Kane, President of NCQA. "It's awarded to plans whose service and clinical quality meet NCQA's rigorous requirements for consumer protection and quality improvement."

The NCQA Standards for Accreditation are intended to help organizations achieve the highest level of performance possible, reduce patient risk for untoward outcomes and create an environment of continuous improvement. The NCQA accreditation process evaluates how well a health plan manages all parts of its delivery system - physicians, hospitals, other providers, and administrative services - in order to continuously improve health care for its members.

"I am very proud we received NCQA accreditation," said Daniel Hilferty, President and Chief Executive Officer of AmeriHealth Mercy. "This recognition by NCQA validates that we are living our mission to deliver quality care to our members. We have made quality our fundamental goal as we build our organization into the premier Medicaid managed care plan in the country."

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan and its affiliates comprise the largest family of Medicaid managed care plans in the United States, serving nearly 800,000 members in five states including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Missouri, Kentucky, and South Carolina.

Owned by AmeriHealth, Inc., a subsidiary of Independence Blue Cross, and Mercy Health System, AmeriHealth Mercy and its affiliated plans have nearly twenty years of experience exclusively serving Medicaid and State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) populations.
