In keeping with AmeriHealth Mercy's Mission and Values, the Member Scholarship Program was created in 1988 in an effort to extend support to members beyond the traditional health care services. The scholarships are funded by donations from AmeriHealth Mercy associates and are awarded to AmeriHealth Mercy members who have committed themselves to continuing their education, and who have demonstrated a financial need.
Since its inception in 1988, the Member Scholarship Program has awarded more than 650 scholarships to members, totaling nearly $1.5 million, in both the Lehigh/Capital and Philadelphia markets.
All interested members can apply beginning November 2010, if they meet the criteria listed below.
You must:
- Be a current AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan member.
- Have completed 12th grade or have your GED of the current year. Enclose a copy of your grades if you are graduating this year.
- Be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate college, university, trade or vocational school of the current year (graduate studies excluded). Enclose a copy of your grades if you are already enrolled.
- Complete the entire application.
- Type or write a one-page essay that answers the questions listed on the application.
- Submit a Letter of Recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, clergy member, community leader, work supervisor or someone outside of your family who has known you for a number of years.
All applications and essays are selected based on the following guidelines:
- Neatness and completeness of the entire application,
- Content, grammar and composition of the essay, and
- Quality of the Letter of Recommendation.
Your completed application package must be postmarked by the deadline referred to in the application. Any required materials postmarked after the deadline will not be considered for the Member Scholarship Program.
