The Women’s Wellness Initiative stresses the importance of early detection, preventive care, healthy behaviors and overall personal health awareness, and to promote wellness in all aspects of life including spiritual, social, physical, mental, and environmental. The specific disease prevention focus is heart disease, breast cancer, and cervical cancer.
Monthly wellness workshops take place at faith-based and community-centered organizations that partner with AmeriHealth Mercy on the initiative.
Supporting AmeriHealth Mercy’s focus on disease prevention, health topics will include healthy weight, healthy heart, stress management, diabetes, breast cancer awareness, reproductive health and asthma management.
In celebration of Women’s Wellness, Wellness Empowerment Fairs have taken place in Harrisburg, Reading and Wilkes-Barre. The fairs included participation from multiple health agencies in the counties. The fairs offered participants’ educational workshops, free health screenings, heart healthy food and access to vendors representing human service organizations.
